Fiscal Sponsorship Project: Council Member Duties

What is the role of council members? What are their responsibilities? Check out this list of duties a council member should fulfill.

The main purpose of having a council for your project is so that the council members help fulfill the project's charitable mission. All council members serve as volunteers and are subject to approval by Legacy's board.

Here are the duties of council members serving on your fiscal sponsorship project:

1.) Provide opportunities for community members and leaders to volunteer with the project.
2.) Coordinate efforts between the volunteers and the council through meetings and educational opportunities.
3.) Fundraise and seek donations to advance the purpose of the project.
4.)Use various media to educate and increase awareness of the project's charitable purpose. This may be through blogs, websites, social media, newsletters, and videos.
5.) The council may make recommendations about investments of the project's funds.
6.) The council may make recommendations to Legacy about grants, program expenses, and operations for the project.
7.) Express gratitude for the gifts or services provided to aid the work of the project.
8.) Legacy expects to be sent signed copies of the minutes of all official meetings held by the council. For official meetings arranged in coordination with Legacy, Legacy staff may keep and maintain minutes.
